Course Objective

The course iis designed to understand the unique characteristics that allow familiy-controlled businesess to create inimitable competitive advantages that result in their outperformance. It focuses necessary practices managerial functions, organizational structure, strategic planning, finance and market-driven options, family Dynamics, ownership, communication, conflict, leadership, empowerment, management team groups and practices necessary to ensure effective optimization of all of the family business subsystems for the long-term benefit of the family business .

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   understand the unique aspects, distinctive advantages and potential of a family business for superior returns and contribution to the economy
2   understand the critical issues that family businesses face in managing, governance relational dynamics to improve business performance.
3   understand importance of family council meetings, family constitution identifying various stakeholders of a family business and their relationship to business performance
4   improve the management, leading, communication and conflict resolution skills to build trust and understanding
5   identify how to make forecast and analyze environmental metrics to cope with foreseeable obstacles to continuity of a family business
6   gain an academic and practice framework for assessing the long-run performance capabilities of family-controlled companies
7   develop and enhance the essential interpersonal skills to be an effective team member.
8   exhibit awarenes about ethical, personal, corporate values, socially responsible behaviors.
