Course Objective

This course examines the theory, research, and practice of psychology with regard to psychological consequences of traumatic events which are wars, natural disasters, physical violence, neglect, sexual abuse or accidents. In this frame, stress, stressor, trauma, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), acute stress disorder (ASD), depression after trauma, adjustment to loss or death, crises, mourning, coping strategies, psychological hardiness, treatment and prevention strategies are going to be handled in this course.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   The students will acquire knowledge on symptoms and etiology of trauma.
2   Will learn what the individual and wide scale traumas are.
3   Will acquire knowledge of different theories in the trauma literature.
4   Will learn about the role of religion in coping with traumatic experiences such as stress, grief and etc.
