Course Objective

Anatolia s becoming a homeland for Turks and their history in there take an important place in general Turkish history, Islamic Turkish history and World history in terms of culture and civilzation created by Turks and the political, social, cultural etc. results. Thus, if there is alive Muslim Turkish culture in Anatolia, this has been made possible with Turks making Anatolia a homeland and injecting in and protecting their cultures there. In the consideration of this reality, this course aims for the PhD students;
1. To introduce the sources which can be referred in the study of Turkish Islamic culture appeared in Anatolia;
2. To illustrate the relation and connection between Middle Asia Turkish culture and Islamic culture as the origins of Turkish Islamic culture in Anatolia;
3. To teach the culture-makers of Anatolia and their activities and to create consciousness and motivation;
4. To ensure analyzing and evaluating by giving knowledge on physical and spiritual values and elements composed Turkish Islamic culture in Anatolia and their concrete reflections;
5. To create consciousness and sensitivity for protection and maintaining of physical and spiritual values and products of the Turkish Islamic culture.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Students taking this course will; be able to chronologically follow the process of Anatolia s becoming a Turkish homeland in terms of ethnic, religious and cultural dimensions;
2   learn the history of Turkish Seljukids and Anatolian Bayliks and their culture and civilization from main and reliable sources and thus be able to make objective statements about Turkish history in Anatolia and apprehend the status and importance of these elements in the Turkish history and culture in Anatolia;
3   have knowledge on the different elements serving the process of Turkification and Islamization of Anatolia and their political, military, religious, social and cultural activities and roles;
4   be able to analyze and evaluate the dynamics and circumstances making possible Ottomans foundation and becoming a state, thus gain ability of multiple-dimensional perspective to history;
5   be able to correctly analyze and evaluate the status and importance of Turkish history of Anatolia within the general Turkish, Islamic and World history and be able to conclude some contemporary problems.
