General Description
History |
Textile Department was founded in the academic year of 1977-1978 at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Dokuz Eylül University. Education including weaving, printing and apparel design courses is being supported by the theoretical and practical courses regarding art and design such as history and philosopy of art and colour knowledge. In 1990, the department had the fourth major by the establishment of Fashion Accessory Design program. Department was renamed as Textile and Fashion Design Department in 2008-2009 academic year. Education has been performed in three majors namely Textile Design, Fashion Apparel Design and Fashion, Accessory Design since 2009-2010 academic year. |

Profile of the Programme |
Fashion Accessories Design takes place in Textile and Fashion Design Department as a Major since 2009-2010 Academic Year s Fall Semester. Fashion Accessories Design Major aims; to meet the requirement of potent designers in footwear, leather products and jewellery fields of which are complementary and indispensable elements of Textile and Clothing Industries; to train creative, innovative, responsible, self-confident, sensitive and productive accessory designers who possess universal ideas and values; besides an education which is a part of university culture and fine arts practice, to obtain university- sector collaboration effectively; to make advanced Research and Development (R&D) activities of national and international level for textile- fashion accessories design industry. Fashion Accessories Design Major, consistently renovates the given education and its resources of design, form, function, technology, material and aesthetic initiatives of body accessories and functional accessories in conjunction with the techniques of handcraftsmanship and mass production in footwear, leather products and jewellery fields which are indispensables of fashion industry, The major expands its circle of influence following national and international academic and artistic activities. Among the national universities in Turkey, being the one and only design major of 4 years of specialized education, the major maintains the responsibility of being pioneer and model. Fashion Accessories Design education involves the design and production of functional and aesthetic items of fashion in BA and postgraduate degrees. On these grounds, this versatile design education is performed by our academic staff and supported by part time lecturers who are also experts in various fields. Courses of all kinds of fashion accessories including jewellery design and leather items (shoes, belts, bags, etc.) are presented within the conceptual projects. The basic techniques of goldsmithing and the production of leather items as well as the manipulation of other kinds of industrial and artistic materials are introduced to the students in order to create the original designs of their own. Drawing, 3D modeling and computer aided design courses are also offered. Rate for 2 required courses in foreign language having 4 ECTS, to program courses is %1,66. There are 11 classrooms, 4 Ateliers (Weaving, Printing, Jewellery and Apparel Ateliers), 1 Chemistry Lab, 2 Computer Labs, 3 Storage Rooms in Textile and Fashion Design Department where the education takes place. |

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples |
The students graduated from Textile and Fashion Design Department s Fashion Accessories Design Major; according to their education, are specialized in jewellery, leather products and footwear fields. Students educated in these fields are working in companies producing jewellery, footwear, leather products, bags and accessory departments of textile, ready to wear firms or firms making industrial productions in various fields. They also are designing for their own brand according to their specialization or working as educator in academic or public institutions. |

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading |
The regulations for examination and grading are arranged in the fourth part of DEU Faculty of Fine Arts Educational and Examinational Regulations. The lowest grade to be successful in a credit course is 50. Detailed assessment methods and criteria for courses are explained in syllabi. |
Graduation Requirements |
A student is required to have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (C.G.P.A.) of 50/100 and no failing grades. A student is required to have minimum 240 credits of ECTS in total. A student is required to complete the field internships in designated terms and hours. |
