DEGREE PROGRAMMES

: STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING

General Description

History

The Civil Engineering program in İzmir was first started by the Ege Architecture and Engineering College, Buca-İzmir in 1963. The program was merged with the college of Engineering of Ege University in 1969. With reorganization of college of engineering, the civil engineering program continued as the School of Civil Engineering in 1978. With the initiation of Dokuz Eylul University, Civil Engineering Department, along with some other engineering departments formed the college of Engineering in 1982. Currently, the program offers BSCE, MSCE and Ph.D. degrees in the specialty areas of Geotechnical, Hydraulic and Water Resources, Structural Mechanics, Construction Materials and Transportation Engineering. The Civil Engineering Department offers normal and evening program since 1992. The enrollment to the normal program is 72 and to the evening program is 30. Currently, there are over 50 graduate students in the department. The faculty members of the department draw their research funds from wide range of funding agencies such as TUBİTAK; DPT, DEÜ Research Foundation, European Science Foundation and the USA NSF.

Course Structure Diagram with Credits

In addition to the compulsory courses of the programme, students register to elective courses appropriate for their thesis topic, on the consent of their supervisor. If necessary, on the consent of their supervisor, they can also register to courses from other programmes (from DEU or other universities). It is obligatory to register to MAT5001 Applied Mathematics (3 0 0) course. The course can be taken either semester. In the case this course is taken during the M.Sc. education, it is not obligatory. The registration must be noticed to the Institute during course registration period by the supervisor. For Ph. D. students it is obligatory to take minimum 2 non-credit courses among "Ph. D. Programs Common Elective Courses" and be successful with grade (B) within 4 semesters of course taking period.
