General Description

History

Logistics programme has been giving a short-cycle (two-year) education since 2010-2011 academic year as part of Seferihisar Fevziye Hepkon Vocational School of Social Sciences which started its education activities on 3 December 2010. The programme gave its first graduates in 2011-2012 academic year.

Specific Admission Requirements

Students are selected directly among graduates of related vocational high schools and also by a nation-wide Student Selection Examination conducted by Student Selection and Placement Center.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

For the students who are willing to transfer from higher education institutions in Turkey and abroad to Dokuz Eylul University, the related regulation of Higher Education Board and the evaluation procedures on transfers determined by the University Senate are applied. The numbers of transfers to be made are declared by the Higher Education Board. Evaluations are made by the commission formed by the Vocational School and declared after the decision of the relevant Vocational School Board.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

The student must complete 2 years of study acquiring 120 (ECTS) credits. This degree is awarded to students who have successfully completed all theoretical courses and applied courses in the curriculum and 30 working days of practical training. According to the Article 33 of Regulation of Dokuz Eylul University on education and examination in Associate's and Bachelor's Degrees, the student should have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average of
2.00 on a 4.00 scale and also have got no failing grades in order to complete the education successfully and attain a diploma.

Profile of the Programme

Logistics programme offers a period of two years education after high school. The objective of the programme of which medium of instruction is Turkish is to educate graduates who can work in the logistics sector as persons who have the theoretical, conceptual and practical knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge, can work independently and as a member of a team, are aware of the ethical responsibility required by the profession and have communication skills. 30 students are admitted to the programme each year. In the first year of education the programme offers courses such as principles of logistics, foreign trade transactions, marketing, economics, accounting, business administration in order to provide the students with the essentials of the field of study whereas in the second year of education the courses such as transportation transactions, transportation law, stock transactions and control, customs regulations and customs clearance services, warehouse transactions, international logistics are offered. In the last two semesters the students can learn the occupational terms in foreign language through the Professional Foreign Language courses. Besides the students must complete a period of 30 working days in practical training in logistics enterprises. This programme intends to include all kinds of practical and theoretical aspects of the field of study and it aims to equip students with the sectoral requirements.

Key Learning Outcomes

1   To possess the basic conceptual, theoretical and practical knowledge on logistics sector.
2   To be able to interpret and analyse the data, to define the problems and offer solutions with a multi-dimensional perspective with regard to the logistics sector.
3   To be able to work independently and in a team-work while having effective communication skills.
4   To have the consciousness of lifelong learning and to be able to closely monitor the current developments regarding the logistics sector in this context.
5   To be able to use the information and communication technologies with regard to the logistics sector.
6   To have the basic knowledge of at least one foreign language and to be able to use it in the field.
7   To have the knowledge and consciousness of workplace practices, ethical values, social security while knowing the legislation in the logistics sector.
8   To have the knowledge of changing and developing national and international competitive business environment and related institutions in the logistics sector.
9   To know and be able to apply the rules for entering new markets by using the modern marketing and sales techniques.
10   To be able to analyse the internal and external environment of businesses in logistics sector while knowing the fundamental features of businesses and economy.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Graduates of the logistics programme can work in private and public sector enterprises in departments such as planning and prduct design, marketing, production planning, supply management, stock management, warehousing, distribution, transportation, insurance, customs services, purchasing, customer services, foreign trade and sales as well as logistics enterprises.

Access to Further Studies

Graduates of the marina management programme may apply to first cycle programmes, conferring a Bachelor's degree through a centralised placement examination.


Course Structure Diagram with Credits

There are 23 compulsory courses, 8 University compulsory courses and 6 elective courses in the logistics programme. The percentage of the elective courses to all courses is 16 percent. Student must select 2 elective courses per semester in the third and fourth semesters. All elective courses are offered by the logistics programme. The courses in the programme are offered in semesters and there are no preconditions for courses. Students can do practical training in logistics enterprises and the related departments of other enterprises. Practical training is subject to the Practical Training Directive of the Vocational School.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Evaluation methods for every course are defined in the course syllabus form prepared by the relevant teaching staff and provided in the Information Package. The related articles of the Regulation of Dokuz Eylul University on Education and Examination in Associate's and Bachelor's Degrees and Implemetation Fundamentals of Education and Examination in Seferihisar Fevziye Hepkon Vocational School of Social Sciences are implemented for examinations and course pass marks.
