Course Objective

Understanding the methods of region construction and its essentials. Learning region, subregion and district concepts. Learning natural and socio-economic properties of Aegean Region.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To learn main concepts related to determination of geographical region
2   To learn problems encountered in determining the geographical regions, subregions and districts. The discussions which occurred during that time
3   To learn the natural properties of Aegean Region
4   To learn the socio-economic properties of Aegean Region
5   To learn the relationships between socio-economic properties and natural properties of Aegean Region
6   To learn the natural and socio-economic properties of districts in Aegeon Region

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 The methodology and various approaches in determination of geographical regions.
2 The evaluation of the criteria which had been taken a basis by Geography Commission on separating into regions of Turkey in 1941 1th Geography Congress.
3 To evaluate the location of Aegean Region and the borders between Aegean Region and other regions.
4 An overview to subregions and districts of Aegean Region
5 The geological properties of Aegean Region
6 The geomorphological properties of Aegean Region
7 The climatic and hydrographic (streams and lakes) properties of Aegean Region.
8 MIDTERM EXAM
9 The soil properties and natural vegetation of Aegean Region.
10 The population, settlements and dwellings in Aegean Region. The energy sources and underground sources in Aegean Region.
11 Agriculture and animal husbandry in Aegean Region. Büyük Menderes Valley District and Menteşe District.
12 The industry, trade, tourism and transportation in Aegean Region. Gediz and Bakırçay Valley districts.
13 The Dursunbey-Kütahya district and Afyon district.
14 Land trip
15 FINAL EXAM
