Course Objective

At the end of this course, the students will grasp the development and importance of travel and travelogue in historical process over the concepts of travel and travelogue; they will gain the knowledge of travelogues not only of Europeans subject Ottoman geography but also of Turks subject Europe.

1   To be able to describe the concepts of travel, culture of travel and traveler
2   To be able to summarize the history of travel and travelogues in West
3   To be able to explain the mentality of travel in different periods of Europe
4   To be able to write the leading travelers who came to Ottoman geography and their travelogues
5   To be able to analyze the commercial, diplomatic, religious and literary dimensions of travel
