Course Objective

Aims to teach about the emergence, development and characteristics of Greek and Roman archaeology.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Have the knowledge on the Hellenistic Iron Age Cultures
2   Discuss the Aegean migrations known as "migration of the tribes"
3   Explain the Dark Age
4   Have knowledge about the architecture, ceramic and sculpture arts of these ages
5   Know important sites of anatolia and Aegean Basin in these ages

Course Contents

1 Geography and topography of Aegean Basin.
2 Terminology.
3 Greek sculpture during Protogeometric and Geometric periods.
4 Sculpture.
5 Architecture.
6 Ceramics.
7 Field Work I: Archaeological Museum of Izmir as well as Museum of History and Art of Izmir.
8 Midterm exam.
9 Middle Classical sculpture.
10 Classical Greek sculpture from Asia Minor.
11 Field Work II: Clarus.
12 Final exam.
