Course Objective

The purpose of this course, the development of the individual and society as an element contributing to a culture of music, both internal and external elements of the understanding, knowledge of the intellectual creation of music.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Both aesthetic and understand the music as a cultural phenomenon.
2   Learn the inner terminology and concepts of music.
3   Will have the historical knowledge of the Turkish musical culture.
4   Assessed in the context of traditions and customs of Turkish music, thoughts develop.
5   . Synthesis in the context of intercultural interaction and evaluate music.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 Human and music culture, music culture, definition, scope and elements, music culture and cultural elements of other cultures and relationships;
2 The place of music and culture, art, culture, music culture, philosophical, artistic, scientific and technical backgrounds, and sizes; Music culture, tradition, modernness and modern post-modernism;
3 Conceptual definition and scope of music, the origin of the term; music origins, the birth-formation and the evolution of opinions and theories about them; individual and community role in the development of musical culture, personal, social, cultural, economic, and educational functions of music.
4 Layers of music, culture, music genres, types, and their works;
5 Sound sources in the music of nature, human and instruments; formation and characteristics of sound;
6 Music, sound systems, intervals, scales, chords;
7 Basic materials of music: sound and motion, the basic elements of music: rhythm, melody, harmony, structure, determinants of qualification in music: Genre-variety, speed, loudness, instrument tasking, texture, performance, style, size, tone / tune, and self-form acoustic environment / atmosphere.
8 Midterm Exam
9 A case of music, notation, musical language and musical communication;
10 Making music, creating, managing, listening, thinking, understanding-telling, learning and teaching;
11 Making music, creating, managing, listening, thinking, understanding-telling, learning and teaching;
12 Music institutions, organizations, community, and events;
13 The main change in Turkey and world music cultures, growth, transformation, and trends
