Course Objective

To teach main piano techniques and practice methods; to performance works from piano repertoire.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Learns main piano techniques in appropriate to the level of second grade.
2   Transfers techniques which are gained from works practiced appropriate to the level of second grade to other works.
3   Knows characteristics of composer s periods in works appropriate to the level of second grade.
4   Compares with contemporary music to their period of music history in appropriate to the level of second grade.
5   Analysis works according to harmony and form in appropriate to the level of second grade.
6   Forms musical expression in works performed appropriate to the level of second grade.
7   Determines the effectiveness of the performance to detect mistakes in the playing works in appropriate to the level of second grade.
8   Evaluates about own performance in appropriate to the level of second grade.

Course Contents

1 Repetition of scales and arpeggios, teaching of B Flat Major scale and arpeggio
2 Sight reading of an Etude and one movement from a Sonatine or Sonata
3 Practicing a polyphonic piece
4 Working on Etude in details
5 Practicing a piece from Baroque period
6 G minor scale and arpeggio
7 Practicing a piece from Romantic or Contemporary period
8 Midterm exam
9 Analysing musical forms of the pieces
10 Working second movement of a Sonatine/Sonata in details
11 Repetition of all scales and arpeggios
12 Controlling all the pieces as regard as tempo, nuance and expression
13 Necessary practices for removing techniqual and musical disabilities in all pieces
14 Working on the pieces and preparation for the final exam
15 Final exam
