Course Objective

Giving information about the development of the art history discipline, to mention from antiquity to modern times important art historians and establishing of academies and museums briefly, examining the relation of art history with other branches of science(psychology, sociology, history, anthropology, numismatic etc.) on sample pieces of art, talking about the cultural environment of Egyptian, Greek, Roman and Anatolian civilizations from pre-historical times, presenting samples of pieces of art, examining the reflections of Greek and Roman mythologies on different types of branches of art(literature, painting, sculpture, architecture and music) from ancient to modern times.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Getting information about pre-historical times, knowing cave paintings and sculptures
2   Comprehending general features of Egyptian art, knowing works of architecture, paintings and sculptures, learning Egyptian mythology.
3   Comprehending general features of Greek culture and art, knowing works of architecture, paintings and sculptures.
4   Comprehending general features of Roman culture and art, knowing works of architecture, paintings and sculptures.
5   Getting to know the Anatolian Civilizations (Hittites, Phrygs, Lydians, Urartu etc.), learning their cultural and artistic environment, knowing their Gods.
