Course Objective

With relate to everday life to consolidate, improve, complement shortage and show application of chemistry knowledge which is learned in elementary and secondary schools. Using the their chemical information, to improve skills of inqiry, problem solving and critical thinking.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Understanding of scientific thinking and inquiring relation with daily life.
2   Have the basic knowledge on the concepts such as properties and states of matter, structure of atom, chemical bonds and molecular structure
3   Balance chemical equations
4   Make chemical calculations
5   Know the useful and harmful reactions to the life
6   Know the reason of the environmental pollution
7   Know the ones that should be made to be a friend of the environment.

Course Contents

1 The definition, branches, importance, effect on daily life of the chemistry and looking at the historical development of chemistry
2 Scientific methods, significant numbers, classifacations and properties of matter
3 Solutions, mixtures, solubility, Three state of matter, phase change, physical properties of water
4 Law of conservation of mass, acids, bases, salts (chemical properties)
5 Atom and electronic structures of atoms, nucleus of atom, proton, neutron and electron, atomic theory
6 Introduction of periodic table, Types and periodic properties of elements
7 Formulas of Chemical Compounds, types of chemical reactions and equations, the mole concept and chemical calculations
8 Midterm Exam
9 Ionic bond, covalent bond, intermolecular forces of attraction
10 Carbon compounds, carbon compounds and their toxic collapse connectings (be rendered harmless)
11 Chemical properties of water, Oxidation-reduction reactions and to balance equations, batteries
12 Land materials: rocks, minerals and combinations
13 Effects of detergents on the environment and its biological effects
14 Effects of agricultural drugs on the environment and its biological effects.
15 Final exam
