Course Objective

The aim of this course is to provide students with general understanding of the basic concepts and institutions of law.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 Legal order; concepts of law and right; other rules regulating society
2 Rules of law and its qualities. The principle of rule of law. The aim of law. Enforcement: Sanctions.
3 Sources of law: Constitution, Codes (Statutes); Statutory Sources; Regulations and by laws Customary Law. Judge-Made Law. Branches of law
4 Legal Relations and Rights. Concept of right Characteristics of rights. Public rights. Private rights Absolute and relative rights: Absolute rights on property; Absolute rights on persons; Relative rights and their kinds. Real rights and personal rights. Property, ownership, possession.
5 Personality Real Persons: Beginning of personality; persons as subjects of rights; capacity to act; the degree of capacity. End of personality. Protection of personality. Legal personality; Legal entities in public and private law.
6 Persons as subject of rights The acquisition and the loss of rights.
7 Good faith principle in acquisition of rights. Rules regulating capacity to act; rule of honesty.
8 Legal events and legal acts Legal Transactions: definition, classification of legal transactions.
9 The scope and the source of law of obligations The concept of obligation; debtor-creditor relationship, responsibility
10 Classification of contracts.Formation of contacts. Validity form of contracts The legal consequences of the non-observance of a prescribed form of the contracts.
11 Interpretation of contracts
12 Subject matter of contracts; concept of autonomy of will and freedom of contract Unconscionable bargains.
