Course Objective

This course is designed to help students understand the patterns and processes involved in regional tourism development and the methods to manage tourism development in different destination settings through the analysis of tourism resources.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Assess ideas and theories of tourism and regional development to be able to examine the development processes followed by real-life destination cases
2   Understand the spatial patterns of tourist destinations to describe the varying prerequisites of tourism development in different destination types
3   Evaluate the supply capacity in tourist destinations in a way to identify the carrying capacity thresholds of both the overall destination product and sub-sectors
4   Analyse the visitor tour maps of alternative destination types in order to suggest solutions to demand-related problems
5   conduct analyses on the structure of destination products in order to be able recommend methods to strengthen the inter-dependence of product components

Assessment Criteria

1. In their exam essays, students should be able to present that they are capable of describing the related topics and concepts correctly with the use of appropriate real-life cases.
2. In assignments , students ability to work in groups, the correct match of the submitted paper s content with the assignment topic, and the number of assignments submitted throughout the term will add up to the assignment grade.

1. Attending at least 70 percent of lectures is mandatory.
2. Plagiarism of any type will result in disciplinary action.
3. Teams for assignments need to alter each week. Students cannot work with the same team for the whole term.
