Course Objective

To provide the ability of analyzing thermal systems by having the knowledge of the basic concepts of heat and heat transfer, methods of mathematical modeling at various geometry and design media.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Describe the concepts of heat transfer by conduction, convection and radiation.
2   Select the appropriate boundary and initial conditions in the thermal systems.
3   Solve the thermal systems which include heat conduction by the analytical and the numerical methods.
4   Select the material type and the thickness in the isolated thermal systems.
5   Differentiate the steady state and the transient thermal systems.
6   Analyze the thermal systems which include natural and forced convection.

Assessment Criteria

1st, 2nd and 3rd learning outcomes will be assessed by the 1st midterm exam 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th learning outcomes will be assessed by the 2nd midterm exam. All the learning outcomes will be assessed by the final exam.
