Course Objective

To learn fundamental treatments, application methods, pretreatment, dyeing-printing and finishing processes

1   To learn the definition and the scope of textiile finishing
2   To learn chemical application methods
3   To learn calculation of amount of chemicals and add-on values based on application method
4   To learn textile finishing treatments (pretreatment, dyeing-printing, finishing)
5   To learn evaluation of effects of finishing treatments

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 Genaral information about the course, definition of textile finishing
2 Introduction of finishing treatment, steps of finishing treatments. Application of textile finishing agents to textile materials and its methods
3 Aim and fundamental of washing processes, washing chemicals and machines. Aim of drying processes, its machines and methods
4 Pretreatments of cotton products: Control, singeing, desizing, scouring etc. and evaluation methods for these processes
5 Bleaching, optical brigthening asnd their evaluation techniques
6 Mercerization. Pretreatment processes of flax, regenerated cellulose and synthetic fibers. Pretreatment laboratory.
7 Dyeing mechanism, processes and machines.Dyestuffs. Dyeing of cellulosic and wool fibers.
8 Dyeing of wool fibers, Dyeing of synthetic fibers
9 1st midterm
10 Fundamentals, machines and methods of printing. Printing of cellulosic, wool and synthetic fibers. Lab: Dyeing
11 Finishing of cotton products
12 Finishing of wool products
13 2nd midterm
14 Tests of finishing treatments
15 Fastness tests
