To give theoretical and practical information about textile dyeing technology

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To learn suitable dyestuffs for fibers
2   To learn dyeing methods related to fibers and dyestuffs
3   To get information about color
4   Ability to design new processes and to solve problems by using fundamental information about dyeing and by determining needs
5   To learn dyeing mechanisms of dyestuffs

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 General information about dyeing. Principles of exhaustion and impregnation techniques
2 Information about color and dyestuffs
3 Dyeing of cellulosic fibers: dyeing with substantive dyestuffs. Lab: Dyeing of cotton fibers with substantive dyestuffs.
4 Dyeing with reactive dyestuffs
5 Vat dyestuffs. Lab: Color trials of cotton fibers when dyeing with substantive dyestuffs.
6 Dyeing with sulphur, indigo and pigment dyestuffs.
7 Dyeing of wool and silk fibers: Dyeng with acid and chrome dyestuffs. Lab: Dyeing of cotton fibers with reactive dyestuffs
8 1th midterm. Lab:Dyeing of cotton fibers with reactive dyestuffs
9 Dyeing of protein fibers with natural and metal complex dyestuffs
10 Dyeing of Polyamide fibers
11 Dyeing of polyester fibers
12 Dyeing of polyester fibers
13 2nd midterm
14 Lab: Dyeing of wool and polyamide fibers
