Course Objective

This course, concentrating mainly on the history of Turkish architecture, aims to examine the basic concepts and the terminology of Islamic culture and architecture, and to introduce the outlines of major developments and characteristic periods in the history of Turkish architecture within the contexts of social, economic and geographic backgrounds, institutions, settlements patterns, building typologies and construction techniques.

2   To gain a theoretical basis of the concepts and the terminology of architectural history
3   To understand the major developments in the history of architecture
4   To analyze and evaluate the historical built environment with its various aspects
5   To recognize the characteristic periods in the history of Turkish architecture.
