Course Objective

How radicals causing toxic effect form and the dismutation reactions occuring against this toxic effect will be enlightened by discussing permanent damages, degenerative diseases and ageing periods which occur in organism in the case of imbalance between radicals and defence system although there is an antioxidant defence system on the purpose of scavenging these free radicals forming in metabolism.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Have a full information about free radicals,
2   Comprehend enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidant systems,
3   Understand scavenging mechanisms of free oxygen radicals by antioxidants,
4   Correlate between oxidative stress and diseases,
5   Examine roles of antioxidants in ageing, nutrition, diseases and therapy.
