Course Objective

The purposes of this course are 1) to help students accumulate a body of knowledge regarding the research methods and models, data collection and analysis techniques generally used in the social siciences, but applied specifically to the field of music studies ; 2) to help studiends gain the analytical , practical, methodological and technical skills suited to the particular demands of scien tific research ; and 3) to teach students how to convert the statistical findings of their research to written prose.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   The ability to perform detailed research by using the scholarly literature available to follow contemporary developments in the studients field of specialization and in subjects relevant to individual projects.
2   The ability to determine appropriate methods and techniques for use in the study of music.
3   The ability to define relevant methods and techniques for use in field research.
4   The ability to synthesize data collected , analyze it with the support of both quantitative and qualitative data , and to interpret and evaluate the resutant findings..
5   The ability to produce scientific reports, presentation, articles and academic theses from the findings of research performed.
