Course Objective

Instruction of hand and beating techniques as rudiments of conducting; breathing, concentration and motion drills; comprehending body as the conductor's instrument; application of all skills during the rehearsals with orchestra.

1   Comprehend main techniques of practice regarding orchestral conducting.
2   Apply basic beating techniques with orchestra.
3   Perform harmonic and formal analysis on the score.
4   State opinions - in writing and orally - and discuss differences regarding orchestral music and music repertoire.
5   Employ hand and beating techniques during rehearsals with orchestra.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Instructor demonstrates audio and video recordings on the subject of basic conducting techniques and have students put these techniques into practice.
