Course Objective

: To comprehend advanced techniques of harmonic, contrapuntal and formal analysis through theoretical knowledge and historical process.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Apply various composition techniques used in the first half of 20th century.
2   Explain a range of compositional techniques according to their principal aspects
3   Assess similarities and dissimilarities of these techniques.
4   Recognize composition styles used in the first half of 20th century.
5   Make a list of reasons why a particular composition, analyzed visually and audially, is written by a certain composer.

Further Notes About Assessment Methods


EXAMS: A Final exam will be held at the end of the semester and a student will earn 30% of his/her grade through this exam.

HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS: A student will earn 70% of his/her grade via homework assignments given throughout the semester.

Assessment Criteria

Written exam (Final) and homework assignments aim at evaluating whether or not a student has achieved theoretical and applied proficiency as described in Learning Outcomes.
