Course Objective

Enable students to learn, internalize, sight sing (play at first sight) and interpret orchestral works; while having the students practice these works, develop their knowledge, skills and musicianship, thus increase their professional performance as opera and symphony orchestra members

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Play alone numerous fragments chosen from orchestral repertoire.
2   Pay attention to tempi, dynamics, rhythmic features, key signatures, character, articulation, sonic quality and intonation of any chosen fragment.
3   Display technical and musical features of a fragment.
4   Play at first sight the most prominent orchestral fragments that a student never came across before.
5   Perform chosen orchestral fragments with other instruments.
6   Adjust to other instruments articulations, sound quality and intonation that a student plays together with
7   Associate a chosen work with its historical and stylistic features.
8   While performing together, pay attention to listening others, playing simultaneously, balance and harmony.
9   Find articles, books, etc. on the chosen orchestral works and present the collected information to his/her classmates.

Lectures
Technical, intonation, sonic, musical, historical and stylistic interpretation of orchestral works; individual and collective performance application and the tutti or solo presentation of these works.

EXAMS: A student will earn 80% of his/her grade through attendance and in class performance; and 20% through report preparation and presentation.
