Course Objective

Following the basic information provided about destination management and marketing, the course aims handling the issues such as samples and applied studies of international tourism market, stakeholder management on destinations, strategic planning, destination management and marketing organizations and destination management cooperation.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be able to classify destination products and examine the role of them in destination system.
2   To be able to describe the framework of destination management and marketing and evaluate strategic proposals regarding problems encountered in practice.
3   To be able to analyze tourism resource analysis and provide solutions in tourism planning.
4   To be able to prepare strategic marketing planning for tourism destinations by evaluating contemporary tourism marketing strategies.
5   To be able to identify appropriate marketing strategies and develop competitive strategies suited to visitors demands, needs and expectations.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Following the lectures given by the lecturer of the course on the first 6 weeks, students will be given homeworks about different destinations' planning and marketing strategies and those works will be presented and discussed by students in the class.

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

Completing the lecture successfully will be possible by the attendance and active participation in discussions in the class. Students' presentation skills and the content and the compliance of presentation reports with the objective of the study will be based on the assessment criteria.

Assessment Criteria

1- Students' knowledge on destination management will be taken into account in the midterm and final exams, but besides theoretical knowledge students will also be expected to discuss and evaluate the related subjects in the context of current issues.
2- It is aimed for students to get ready to make scientific studies by preparing homeworks. Therefore, the assignment will be considered to conform to the rules of scientific writing.
3- In class discussions and presentations, along with presentations skills students are intented to be developed in discussion skills related to scientific issues.

1. It is obligatory to attend at least 70% of the classes.
2. Violations of Plagiarism of any kind will result in disciplinary steps being taken.
3. Reports should be submitted prior to presentations and shared with the rest of the class.
