Course Objective

The aim is to introduce the key concepts of linguistics to students; to teach the basic aspects of phonology, phonetics, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, and discourse.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   to comprehend the key concepts of linguistics and universal properties of language.
2   to know the basic aspects of phonology and phonetics.
3   to classify the sounds of English.
4   to know and analyse the basic aspects of morphology.
5   to explain the main concepts of semantics.
6   to explain the main concepts of pragmatics
