Course Objective

The aim of this course is to teach the students which fabric techniques have been used for woven fabrics used in everyday life, and by which loom technique they have been produced. And also, we aim to inform the students the stages for weaving.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   define the basic concepts of weaving,
2   learn the characteristic features of basic fabrics used for woven fabrics,
3   be informed of the basic fabrics used for woven fabrics and how their derivatives are made,
4   learn how to prepare the plans of fabric, weaving draft and armure to be able to produce woven fabrics by looms,
5   prepare the weft and warp report which will be used for weaving,
6   learn the features and operating mechanism of the weaving loom,
7   apply the operation stages during weaving process.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

In the course, after the basic introduction and explanations, we will support the lesson subjects by the examples explaining the features of basic fabrics and their derivatives and how they are made. Furthermore, we will have the students make plain weave, fustian and satin fabric using armure looms.

Assessment Criteria

In accordance with the aim of the course, it is necessary for the students to distinguish the differences of the fabrics used in the fabric production and the importance of them during application.
