Course Objective

Learning the geomorphological and geological evolution of Turkey.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To learn formation and distribution of the rocks which have various age and properties in Turkey
2   To learn the internal and external forces which play the role in formation of Turkey throughout geological times
3   To learn the role of external forces, factors and processes in formation of Turkey
4   To learn main landforms of Turkey (mountains, plains and plateaus), erosional and depositional landforms and their distributions
5   To learn the topographical properties (inclination, elevation etc) of Turkey

1 The distribution of the lands which belonging to various geological times in Turkey
2 The orogenic movements in Turkey
3 The earth movements in Turkey (epeirogenic movements/neotectonic movements)
4 The earthquakes in Turkey, earthquake zones, measures and protection ways.
5 The topographical properties, slope classes, elevation steps and their distribution in Turkey
6 The roles of internal forces in formation of Turkey, volcanism and volcanism types in Turkey
7 The roles of external forces in formation of Turkey
8 MIDTERM EXAM
9 The main landforms of Turkey (orogenic, tectonic and volcanic mountains)
10 The main landforms of Turkey (tectonic plains)
11 The deltas and deltaic plains in Turkey.
12 Karstic landforms in Turkey. Plateaus and their distributions in Turkey
13 The structural landforms and Glacial landforms in Turkey
14 Excursion for practice
15 FINAL EXAM
