Course Objective

At the end of this course, students learn political history of world from 1789 French Revolution to the present day, explain the causes of I. and II. World War and regional wars, be able to make a general discussion about the problems of the contemporary world.

1   1. Knowledge of the concepts of intellectual, economic and political change that forms the basis of the contemporary world.
2   2. To explain the ideologies of contemporary world.
3   3. To analyze the causes and the consequences of the contemporary world.
4   4. To discuss the Revolutions of contemporary world.
5   5. To recognize the problems of contemporary world.

3 Foundations of the contemporary world: Political change (French Revolution-World of Napoleon)
4 Ideologies of contemporary world: Nationalism, Liberalism and Socialism
5 Wars of contemporary world: Wars with Napoleon and Crimean War
6 Wars of contemporary world: The Great Battle
7 Wars of contemporary world: Second World War
8 Midterm Exam
9 Wars of contemporary world: Regional Wars ( The Korean War- Vietnam War)
10 Wars of contemporary world: Regional Wars (Israeli-Arab War, Iraq-Iran War, Afghan War, The Gulf Wars)
11 Revolutions of contemporary world: 19. century National revolutions (Soviet Revolution, Chinese Revolution)
12 Revolutions of contemporary world: (The Cuban Revolution, South America and Africa, the collapse of the Iron Curtain)
13 Problems of the contemporary world: Economic problems (The working Classes and Inflation-Petrol)
