Course Objective

Improvement of Reading and Writing skills with a special emphasis on print media texts as well as additional shorter text types (short stories)

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   The students can read texts from different German print media (Zeit, FAZ, TAZ; Süddeutsche, Spiegel, Bild) to current German-turkish topics and can state the basic issues and information.
2   The students can summarize and retell orally and in writing the main ideas and concepts.
3   The students can understand, paraphrase and put into use frequent and typical vocabulary items in print media texts.
4   The students can vary short stories.
5   The students can understand and follow instructional texts as well as write instructions themselves.

3 Current newspaper article on politics (local/iforeign affairs); global reading, selective reading; vocabulary, formulating core concepts and topcis
4 Current newspaper article on politics (local/foreign affairs), global reading, selective reading, vocabular, summarizing texts
5 Contrastive analyses of 2 articles on one (controversial) topic
6 Repetition
7 Rewriting fairy-tale or short story into a newspaper article
8 Midterm extern
9 Short stories and perspective: Rewriting form a different character s perspective
10 Repetition
11 Short stories and their endings: Finishing or rewriting the end of a short story
12 Repetition
13 Reading, realizing and writing instruction texts
