Course Objective

Advanced foreign language training; comprehension of complex texts; to talk fluently on abstract and concrete issues; comprehension of visual or auditory texts at an advanced C1/C2 levels covering different topics; to freely express an opinion on different topics; to be a knowledgeable participant in oral discussions; to actively use the new vocabulary items at C1/C2-level

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Students are able to understand complex texts on different topics (concrete and abstract) at an advanced C1 and C2-level C1 in German.
2   Students are able to fluently and freely comment on these texts (compare 1).
3   Students are able to understand audio and visual media texts and materials at a C1/C2-level and to reproduce the content in written or oral form .
4   Students are able to understand and to actively use the new vocabulary items introduced in the texts (written, oral, visual) in discussions and to express their opinions.
5   Students are able participate in debates and discussions on various topics using an adequate and elaborate vocabulary and appropriate speech devices (C1/C2).

2 Explanation of differences between abstract and concrete texts; working with examples of abstracts and concrete texts (visual / oral, written)
3 Oral reproduction of complex texts (concrete, abstract) using new vocabulary items
4 Oral interpretation of texts read using new vocabulary items.
5 Shifting the perspective of texts (orally)
6 Shifting the perspective of texts (orally)
7 Repetition
8 Midterm Exam
9 Active repetition and training of C1 and C2-vocabulary items (orally and written) to improve expression of complex issues of German texts
10 Auditory and visual texts in German to different topics at C1/C2 level, reproduction of texts combined with grammatical training
11 Auditory and visual texts in German to different topics at C1/C2 level, reproduction of texts combined with grammatical training
12 Auditory and visual texts on different topics (C1/C2-level); participating in discussions on the basis of these texts
13 Auditory and visual texts on different topics (C1/C2-level); participating in discussions on the basis of these texts
14 Brief presentations of individual additional research done in out-class activities on varying topics Discussions at C1/C2-level to topics covered throughout the semester with no additional preparation time
