Course Objective

To be able to gain the knowledge and skills which necessary for analyzing the theoretical structure of music, to gain tonal hearing, to write one/two part dictation by listening on the piano, to hear triads and gain the skills on sigtreading.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Gains the basic knowledge about music and uses on musical hearing, reading and writing studies.
2   Gains tonal hearing.
3   Hears two part.
4   Understands the structure of a triad by listening on the piano.
5   Writes a one part melody in two sharped/flatted major/minor tune.
6   Writes a two part melody by listening on the piano.
7   Reads the tonal solfege pieces.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 Writing in two sharped and flatted major/minor tune in simple and compound time signature, hearing two part harmonics, reading solfege.
2 Writing in two sharped and flatted major/minor tune, reading and writing studies on F and C clef, reading solfege.
3 Writing in two sharped and flatted major/minor tune, reading solfege in F clef.
4 Chromatic scales, reading solfege.
5 Using altered notes in dictation studies, reading solfege.
6 Appogiatur, grupetto, trill, mordent, hearing triads in root position, reading solfege.
7 Appogiatur, grupetto, trill, mordent, hearing and writing root position and inversions of triads, reading solfege.
8 Midterm exam.
9 Hearing one/two part harmonics and melody, hearing and writing triads, reading solfege.
10 Cadences, reading solfege.
11 Cadences, reading solfege.
12 Two part melody dictation, reading solfege.
13 Hearing and writing triads, two part melody dictation, reading solfege.
14 Hearing two part harmonics and triads, one/two part melody dictation, reading solfege.
15 Final exam.
