Course Objective

The objective of this course is to teach students theoretical scalas of Turkish Music, to compose polyphonic Turkish compositions for the piano, the orchestra and the choir.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Learns the harmonical structure of hüseyni, kürdi, hicaz, nikriz and nihavend scalas used in Turkish Music.
2   Students analyse the formal structure of homophonous music written by these scalas and find the cadances.
3   Espescially by using the counterpoint technique they learn and practice how to polyphonize Turkish melodies.
4   They learn and practice Kemal Ilerici s Foursome Harmony
5   Students perform the polyphonic music they created in class.

To polyponize a bass party given in Turkish Music scalas
3- Harmonizing the Melody
To polyponize a soprano party given in Turkish Music scalas
4-Weekly assignments
Students arrange or compose a song with Turkish Music scalas covered in class.
5-Presentations
Students play or sing their original compositions and discuss them thoroughly.
