Course Objective

The aim of the course is to make class teacher candidates be able to plan, apply and evaluate music teaching course which is one of the important dimensions of contemporary education and apprending contrubutions to cognitive, affective, social and psyhco-motor developments of students.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Being able to comprehend basic components of music and curriculum.
2   Being able to select appropriate song from national and international repertoire.
3   Being able to apply music course with appropriate strategy, method and techniques by taking into consideration necessary rules and principles.
4   Being able to use by selecting educational technology and developing appropriate material, device and instruments according to objectives.
5   Being able to build up aesthetic point of view on singing, playing and creating skills.
6   Being able to use music as an aim and tool.
7   Being able to measure and evaluate musical performance.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 Elementary School `s Music Curriculum and it s components.
2 Teaching method by ear. Groups will be present their planned topic with materials and instruments.
3 Teaching method by notation: Concept map, meaning solving tables, mind maps in music. Every student has to prepare rhythmic bingo and melodic bingo carts. Every student develops two kinds of rhythmic instrument.
4 Music activities for developing concept.
5 Dalcrose method.
6 Cooperative learning.
7 Multiple ıntelligences activities.
8 MID-TERM EXAM.
9 Rhythmic and melodic Bingo.
10 Orff Method.
11 Kodaly Method.
12 Creative Drama in Music.
13 The Turkish National Anthem.
14 Connection between music and aestetich , internal and external qualifications of beauty.
15 FINAL EXAM.

Assessment Criteria


1. Rhythm/bona, playing an instrument, solfege, singing will be evaluated in mid-term examination.
2. Students presentations will be evaluated with final examination.

Course Policies and Rules

1. It is obligated to continue to at least 80% of lessons .
2. Every student has to play a musical ınstrument
3. Every trial to copying will be finalized with disciplinary proceedings.
4. The instructor has right to make applied quizzes. The scores obtained from quizzes will be directly added to exam scores.
