Course Objective

To provide first year students in gaining general knowledge of the reasons of Hadith as science; of its history, its sources, its methods and literatures. They will learn the importance of Hadith and Prophet Muhammad's traditions in the development of Islamic sciences and thought, as well as Quran has.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Will understand the authority and importance of Prophet Muhammad in making social and religious law in Islamic thought.
2   Will learn the contribution of muhaddiths to other religious sciences; and learn detailed knowledge about related topics such as mutawatir-ahad, maqbool-mardood, sahih (sound)-hasen (good)-zaeef (weak) hadith, and the ways hadith literatures bring us.
3   Will be aware of methods of hadith teaching and learning and learn hadith sciences around the topics: the sources of hadith methodology, Riwaya-Rawi-Marwi, mawdoo' (fabricated) hadith, weakneses of hadith, varieties of hadith.
4   Will gain ability to truly use the hadith texts by examining the main hadith books such as Kutub Sittah, Kutub Tis'ah.
5   Will gain ability to evaluate the thoughts of Orientalists regarding about hadith literature.

1 Prophet's position, exemplary, authorities, notificiation and making provision (Role model Prophet Muhammad and his authority)
2 Companions' and tabi'in's occupation in hadith; political and social events
3 The differences between hadith-sunnah-khabar-athar; the stages of emerging the literature; hıfz-kitabah-tadwin-tasnif
4 Orientalists' oppositions on hadith literature.
5 The definition of hadith methodology; its sources, the ways of theaching and learnings of it.
6 The criteria of finding Rawis and their specialities that being searched for.
7 khaber al-wahed and its value for evidence; its usage in Fıqh,
8 midterm
9 Hadith as being accepted and declined: Saheeh and hasen hadiths
10 Zaeef Hadiths and their varieties.
11 Muallel, Muzdarib, Munker, Shaaz, Maklûb, Mudrec, Musahhaf-Muharref
12 Practicing in accordance of weak hadith; mawdu hadith; the reasons of lying about hadith; and the methods of spotting the false hadith.
13 Criticising hadith; and general information about its methodology and its establishing period.
14 Hadith in social and cultural life; the effects of hadith on individuals and society; hadith in Turkish culture.
15 Final exam
