Course Objective

The objective of the course is to enable the student to investigate semantic characteristics particular to a language and to deal with paradigmatic and syntagmatic sense-relationships. This course will allow the student to identify semantic relations as described by linguists.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   With the completion of this course it is expected that the student will be able
2   to identify semantic characteristics particular to languages
3   to evaluate sense-relations based on paradigmatic and syntagmatic relations
4   to identify semantic relations
5   to define, classify and distinguish sense relations
6   to discuss the de Saussurean principle of sign and Ogden & Richards semiotic triangle in detail
7   to distinguish meaning from concept.
