Course Objective

Paying attention to the transformation process of the city of Izmir and introducing the effective agents of these conversions in the context of the modernization process, this course aims to focus on interrelated associations among architecture and urban history, architectural arguments and urban visions.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Recall the phenomenon of historic environment and different approaches to the history
2   Explain the historical continuity of the city via the actors of the architecture and their designs
3   Describe social, economic, political, and cultural factors affecting contemporary architecture of the Izmir
4   Distinguish the dialectical relationship between urban design and architecture
5   Relate philosophical, economic, social and historical paradigms to the realms of urban planning and architecture

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods
