Course Objective

The aim of this course is to get students to comprehend importance of literary texts in the history teaching and to teach how they will use literary texts in their course

1   To explain history and literature relation
2   To array fundamental genres and subjects in the Turkish literature
3   To explain emergence of historical novels in West and Turkey
4   To analyze how different periods of Turkish history reflected to the novels
5   To comment on impacts of popular novels on the historical approach

3 Turkish Literature in brief until nineteenth century: Genres and Subjects
4 Novel in the Tanzimat literature and emergence of historical novel
5 Second Constitutionalist Period: Nationalism, History and Literature
6 Instances of usage of history in the literary texts of the Tanzimat and Constitutional Periods
7 Instances of usage of literary texts of the Tanzimat and Constitutional Periods by historians
8 Mid-Term Exam
9 Literature of Republic and History
10 Turkish National Independence War in the novels and stories
11 Glance to the Ottoman period in the novels of the Republic
12 Glance to westernization in the novels of the Republic
