DEGREE PROGRAMMES

: Textile Engineering

General Description

History

Textile engineering is the engineering branch which provides education and performs researches on processing textile raw materials by various techniques and the development of new techniques in this field. Graduates work in textile-clothing industry, which is largest of the country in terms of workforce.
The Textile Engineering Department of Dokuz Eylul University was established in 1997 and has achieved to become one of the important educational and scientific institutions of Turkey with its academic staff, continuously renewed academic study program in accord with the scientific developments and feed backs from industry with the departments research infrastructure developing correspondingly by the modern technology.
The department gave its first graduates in the academic year 2000-2001 and has been continuing its education in Tinaztepe since 2008 Based on the year 2017 guide of Student Evaluation, Selection and Placement Centre of Turkey, 45 students attend the education program in the department and English Preparatory Class is compulsory and 30% of courses are in English.
In addition to BSc education, the department provides MSc and PhD programs on Textile Engineering in Turkish at the Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences.

Qualification Awarded

Textile Engineering, Bachelor's Degree (B.Sc)

Level of Qualification

First Cycle (Bachelor's Degree)

Specific Admission Requirements

High school diploma, placement through a nation-wide Student Selection Examination.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

Undergraduate transfer procedure for the students from Turkish or foreigner universities is carried out according to the Regulations of Credit Transfer within Undergraduate Transfer Program for foundation and undergraduate education, and within programs of Double Major and Minor between the Institutions of Higher Education together with the Evaluation Requirements designated by the senate of the University.
For the undergraduate transfer of the vocational school graduates, Regulation on the furthering the education of vocational school graduates and open education graduates of foundation year to Undergraduate Education is carried out.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

For graduation, the students must complete all courses and their senior projects successfully. The students are also entitled to fulfil the internships of workshop and factory practices for determined periods of time. The degree is awarded to the students who have credited 240 ECTS and have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.00 / 4.00.

Profile of the Programme

The objectives of First Cycle (Bachelors Degree) programme in Textile Engineering is to educate textile engineers who are acknowledged with Textile Engineering formation while being equipped with inclusive and up-to-date knowledge on textile engineering, who have the consciousness of being able to define any problems and propose solutions with the awareness of the environmental and communal effects, who can approach textile processes and problems considering quality, productivity and cost and thus can design the textile products and processes accordingly, who has compatibility and flexibility to work as an engineer at different positions in the industry.
Since the academic year 2016- 2017, the academic staff of the department consists of 5 professors, 7 associate professor, 3 assistant professors, 1 lecturers and 11 research assistants, all of whom are experts in their fields.
BSc program of Dokuz Eylül University Textile Engineering Department has been accredited by the Association for Evaluation and Accreditation of Engineering Programs (MÜDEK) starting from 1st of July 2009 and 2nd of in 2014. The department was also awarded EURopean ACcredited Engineer (EUR-ACE) Label to be valid during the accreditation period.
After a preparation year for English language, the students attend courses in basic engineering in addition to the courses in basic textiles in the first year of the program. In their second and third years of the program the detailed courses on textiles are given. And in the last year of the education program, in addition to the compulsory courses the students are able to choose courses from three selective groups of courses, which are the textile group, the science/math group and the social selective group. In this way the students are able to set up the most appropriate course outline for themselves according to their interest areas. Students must attend at least 30% of their courses in English during their studies. During their education in the department the students have the opportunity to spend one term abroad in the European Universities, with which the department has bilateral agreements in the scope of Life Long Learning Program: Erasmus. In addition, the department provides double minor and major programs with the departments of Computer, Industrial, Mechanical, Mining, Geophysical and Metallurgy Materials Engineering.
In addition to the educational activities, the department also provides testing, analyzing and consultancy services through its modern laboratories, workshops and expertise academicians to the textile companies, state institutions and researchers. Also our laboratories was accredited according to TS EN ISO/IEC 17025.
Diploma Supplement can be given to the graduates of the program since 2011.
