General Description

History

Department of Oncology was established at 1997 as a department of Institute of Health Science by approval of The Council of Higher Education. Provide the graduation since 2004. Who are graduated from medical faculty or master of science program of Basic Oncology can apply the PhD program of Basic Oncology.
Translational perspective of education, research and laboratory services, which is a branch of a department. Our academic personals are from basic (Pathology) and clinical (Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Pediatric Oncology, Preventive Oncology, Hematology, Bioinformatic, Laboratory Animals) departments of Medical Faculty and Oncology Institute members. Basic Neuroscience PhD program has been started education at 2000. Program duration is 4 years (2 year is course, 2 year is thesis study). The language of program is Turkish.

Specific Admission Requirements

Second Cycle (Master's Degree) diploma. Minimum GPA 80/100 or 3/4, minimum score of 60 from the National Central Graduate Education Entrance Examination (ALES) in the related fields, or 50 in graduate medical residency examination (TUS) minimum score of 60 from the Foreign Language Exams (YDS) or the equivalent exams scores obtained fromTOEFL/etc, and being successful at the science examination of the Institute in the related fields (minimum score of 75).Transcript.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

A successful student who has completed at least one semester at any postgraduate programme may be admitted to an institute at the University by lateral transfer. Requirements for admission of students by lateral transfer are determined by the Board of Directors of the Institute.Students who have matriculated after they have successfully passed the postgraduate entrance exam may be exempted from the courses they have already taken in other institutes upon the proposal of the relevant department and the approval of the Board of Directors of the Institute. However, the total credits of the exempted courses cannot exceed 1/3 of the credits required to finish the relevant programme.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Third Cycle (Doctorate Degree) Program is comprised of courses, (at least 78 ECTS), field study (12 ECTS) and thesis (150 ECTS), in total 240 ECTS credits. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB / S / TP grades.

Profile of the Programme

Basic Oncology PhD program has been started education at 2000. The objectives of this program are to obtain knowledge about basic and clinical oncology and the having the ability to do basic oncology laboratory skills and to provide basic knowledge and skills in the field of oncology research and to create proficiency in planning of research, analyzing and evaluating experimental data, application of appropriate statistical methods and to report the results in the scientific format. Program contains compulsory course of oncology department and elective courses in different basic oncology fields. Students may take courses from different programs and universities.

1   Acquire basic and clinical cancer knowledge and ability to practice of the basic oncology laboratory techniques.
2   Capable of prepare and present oral and written presentations in the field of Oncology.
3   Be able to perform works within the framework of the ethical rules in the field of oncology.
4   Acquire use the information in the field of oncology research required.
5   Capable of apply to basic laboratory methods in cancer research.
6   Acquire epidemiological and statistical information associated with cancer research.
7   Be able to gain ability to obtain information on other issues related to cancer.
8   Thesis, as well as other activities related to oncology, plans, implements, and the author presents and converts it for publication.
9   Be able to critically evaluate the scientific basis for evidence-based information on the basic oncology.
10   Be able to communicate effectively when applying basic oncology research.
11   Knowledgeable about the academic and philosophical information for graduate education.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

The assessment criteria for each course are defined in the Course Description Form included in the information pack prepared by the faculty member/members. The relevant items of the DEU Undergraduate, Graduate Education-Training and Exam Regulations and Instutie Examination Regulations apply in relation to exams and course grades. To be successful in this course must be received at least 75.
