General Description

History

Dokuz Eylül University Institute of Health Sciences (DEU-IHS) Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation (PTR) Master of Science (MSc) program was initiated in 16.06.2006. The MSc program consists of four semesters (2 years) with dissertation. First two semester contains obligatory and elective courses. Second two semesters, students conduct their thesis studies.

Qualification Awarded

Students who are able to complete the program successfully graduate with the Master of Science degree.

Specific Admission Requirements

First Cycle (Bachelors Degree) diploma, minimum score of 55 from the nation-wide Academic Graduate Education Entrance Examination (ALES) in the related fields, acceptable minimum score of 70 from the Foreign Language Exams (YDS) or the equivalent exams scores obtained from TOEFL and being successful at the science examination of the Institute in the related fields (minimum score of 65).

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Second Cycle (Masters Degree) Program with thesis is comprised of courses at least 60 ECTS credits (52 ECTS obligatory, 8 ECTS elective), and thesis study that equivalent to 60 ECTS credits in total 120 ECTS credits. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50 / 4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB / S / TP grades.

Profile of the Programme

Program consists of a series of modular courses that their durations vary from two to five weeks. Each course contains theoretical and practical parts. The objective of the programs is to develop students with the knowledge, attitudes and skills required to design, specify and implement wide-ranging, evidence-based physiotherapy programs for a variety of patients within the related area. This program also aims to prepare volunteering applicants for the third cycle (Doctorate degree) programs and help to create an instructor and researcher profile equipped with proper background.

2   be effective in comparative discussions and/or evaluations on neurologic problems, chronic and degenerative neurological impairments and pediatric neurological problems.
3   have common pediatric and adult orthopaedic knowledge
4   express, convey biomechanical and physiologic approaches and treatment methodologies in terms of argumentative, assessment applications.
5   to understand locomotor systems, kinematics and kinetic analysis s of movement properties in pathological and normal conditions
6   to excel the knowledge and clinical skills in medical and surgical treatments of cardiopulmonary pathologies.
7   to increase the ability to implement knowledge in different cases and clinical environments.
8   To know equipments, staff objectives of intensive care units and to be able to assess and treat patients.
9   meet the specific needs of the intensive care patients, the planning of suitable physiotherapeutic approaches, apply, execute and discuss the program knowledgeable.
10   to sort and review the relevant literature a valid way, and use for efficient presentation
11   integrate the knowledge to practical field in common health problems related to physiotherapy

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

The graduates of this program may apply to hospitals, private practice clinics and also may be candidates as academic staff for positions of teaching and research in university and other relevant research and education facilities.

Access to Further Studies

The graduates of the MSc program are eligible candidates for third cycle (doctorate) programs.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

The students are evaluated by two mid-terms and one final exam and the overall success in project and homework. In order to be successful the student needs to be rated over 75 / 100 in average for a lecture.

Graduation Requirements

Second Cycle (Masters Degree) Program with thesis is comprised of courses (at least 54 ECTS), a seminar (2 ECTS), and field study (4 ECTS) and thesis (60 ECTS) credits. In total 120 ECTS credits. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB / S / TP grades. In addition, the dissertation should be presented and defended by the student and rated as successful by the evaluation committee.
