General Description

History

Department of Tourism and Hotel Management programme has been giving a short-cycle (two-year) education since 2010-2011 academic year as part of Seferihisar Fevziye Hepkon Vocational School of Social Sciences which started its education activities on 3 December 2010. The programme has its first graduates in the academic year of 2011-2012.

Specific Admission Requirements

Students are selected directly among graduates of related vocational high schools and also by a nation-wide Student Selection Examination conducted by Student Selection and Placement Center.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

For the students who are willing to transfer from higher education institutions in Turkey and abroad to Dokuz Eylul University, the related regulation of Higher Education Board and the evaluation procedures on transfers determined by the University Senate are applied. The numbers of transfers to be made are declared by the Higher Education Board. Evaluations are made by the commission formed by the Vocational School and declared after the decision of the relevant Vocational School Board.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

The student must complete 2 years of study acquiring 120 (ECTS) credits. This degree is awarded to students who have successfully completed all theoretical courses and applied courses in the curriculum and 30 working days of practical training. According to the Article 33 of Regulation of Dokuz Eylul University on education and examination in Associate's and Bachelor's Degrees, the student should have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average of
2.00 on a 4.00 scale and also have got no failing grades in order to complete the education successfully and attain a diploma.

Profile of the Programme

The objectives of the tourism and hotel management sector are to educate self-confident persons who are required at intermediate level by the tourism sector and who have basic knowledge about the field and are equipped with the qualifications of using and analyzing the acquired knowledge, working at different levels in a tourism enterprise, giving importance to ethical values, having strong social relations and communication skills, scientific thinking, being inclined to teamwork, closely following the developments in the sector and the world.

6   To be able to organize, coordinate and develop the departments in tourism businesses
7   To be able to define and develop sales techniques and income management applications implemented in hospitality and food and beverage businesses
8   To have the skill of applying professional working techniques in food and beverage and hospitality businesses
9   To be able to use technological systems in tourism businesses
10   To be able to conduct group work in a productive manner
11   To learn the vital touristic destinations in Turkey and the world and to be able to apply this knowledge in tourism sector

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Tourism and Hotel Management Program graduates, hotels, resorts as they canemploy, such as investments in tourism, tourist information bureaus, travel agenciesand tour oparatörlüğü bürolanndada operated.

Access to Further Studies

Graduates of the marina management programme may apply to first cycle programmes, conferring a Bachelor's degree through a centralised placement examination.

Course Structure Diagram with Credits

There are 22 compulsory courses, 8 University compulsory courses and 6 élective courses in the Department of Tourism and Management. The percentage of the élective courses to ali courses is 17%. Student must select 2 élective courses per semester in the third and fourth semesters. Two of the 6 élective courses are offered by the tourism and hotel management programme of the Vocational School. The courses in the programme are offered in semesters and there are no preconditions for courses. Practical training is subject to the Practical Training Directive of the Vocational School.This time, our school decided to be 30 working days, depending on the regulations. Internship, students work life programs, recognition and training offers the opportunity to see applications of their theoretical knowledge. Vocational High School students internship periods are typically periods of the sectors where they met. Students of the benefits afforded by this meeting; Put into practice the theoretical knowledge, skill areas kazanmaGerçek career fields they are interested in a working environment and working areas as determining the suitability to detect, in the future they want to work for those with basic skills that they are winning and developing business in the face of practicality and vision problems likely to face throughout their lives to obtain, Internship parts of the organizational relations and cooperation to get used to, ensuring effective communication of workplace employees, management and administration to provide an ability to actively. To make contact with potential employers face in the future by providing students with an important job references, will make the future investment. Finally, internships, work-related experience is reassuring to employers as an indicator.

Evaluation methods for every course are defined in the course syllabus form prepared by the relevant teaching staff and provided in the Information Package. The related articles of the
Regulation of Dokuz Eylul University on Education and Examination in Associate's and Bachelor's Degrees and Implemetation Fundamentals of Education and Examination in Seferihisar Fevziye Hepkon Vocational School of Social Sciences are implemented for examinations and course pass marks.
