: Molecular Biology and Genetics Master Programme

General Description

History

Department of Genomics and Molecular Biotechnology was established in 2016 with the approval of YOK. Our department has 18 professors competent in various fields of Molecular Biology and Genetics. Molecular Biology and Genetics doctorate program started training in 2016-2017 Academic year. The duration of the program is 4 semesters and total 2 years. The language of the program is English.

Qualification Awarded

Master s Degree in Molecular Biology and Genetics (Msc)

Level of Qualification

Second Cycle (Master s Degree)

Specific Admission Requirements

Bachelor s degree from a 4-year undergraduate program of Health, Science, Engineering and related faculties is required. The students must have a numerical score of 55 ALES points or an equivalent score determined by the University Senate (GRE 610 older system, 149 new system or GMAT 450). It is compulsory to have at least 50 points from the central foreign language exams accepted by the Council of Higher Education, 55 points from the DEÜ Foreign Language Higher Schools or equivalent international foreign language exams which are accepted by the Higher Education Council. 65/100 points from the science exam are considered successful.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

A successful student who has completed at least one semester at any postgraduate programme may be admitted to an institute at the University by lateral transfer. Requirements for admission of students by lateral transfer are determined by the Board of Directors of the Institute.Students who have matriculated after they have successfully passed the postgraduate entrance exam may be exempted from the courses they have already taken in other institutes upon the proposal of the relevant department and the approval of the Board of Directors of the Institute. However, the total credits of the exempted courses cannot exceed 1/3 of the credits required to finish the relevant programme.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

In order to graduate from the programme, it is necessary to complete 60 ECTS credits (including 3 ECTS from the seminar and 2 ECTS from the specialized field) from the courses and 60 ECTS credits from thesis. A total of 120 ECTS credits must be completed. The minimum GPA should be 2.50 / 4.00 for each course.

Profile of the Programme

The aim of this program is to train individuals who have basic and up-to-date theoretical and laboratory knowledge in molecular biology and related fields, equipped with both basic laboratory technical skills and skills necessary for their thesis; Is to educate students on topics such as analysis, synthesis, evaluation, data collection and scientific methodology and scientific communication.

Key Learning Outcomes

1   Acquiring basic knowledge in the fields of molecular biology and genetics
2   Having basic knowledge of in vitro, in vivo and clinical research methods
3   Being able to use basic molecular biology and genetic techniques
4   Understanding the research process from hypothesis generation to final presentation
5   Being able to generate testable research questions from the observations
6   Being able to scan the literature, conduct a research project, record and analyze the data
