General Description
History |
Dokuz Eylül University School of Nursing, the name of School of Nursing, started education taking 50 students in the academic year of 1994-1995. In the same year started the masters degree education and gives the first masters degree graduates in 1997, the first bachelors degree graduates in 1998. With the decision of the Council of Ministers on the date of 01/08/2011, the School of Nursing closed and Faculty of Nursing was established under the Rectorship. Faculty, include one year English preparatory program and four year nursing education, was first applied program-based learning model in the curriculum in 1999-2000 academic year placed in the history of nursing education in our country. Faculty offers innovative, collaborative, inquisitive, questioning and humane approach in the universal standards to educate nurses to enhance and improve the health of the community has reached 597 undergraduate, 105 post graduate and 837 graduate in the academic year of 2011-2012. At present bachelors degree, masters degree and doctorate programs continue in the nine department. |

Qualification Requirements and Regulations |
Grades on nursing vocational courses implemented according to the 60 % of the semester grade for success, or 40% of the final exam and the addition of supplementary and obtained from the conversion of numbers to the nearest integer. Students who has grade below 70 fails from the course and repeats all of the course. Semester grades of students study with Problem-based Learning program is obtained by the total of 40% of midterm averages and 60% of the midterm activities. Midterm activities consists of Problem based learning sessions, laboratory, practice and homework grades and their weights are given to the Dean of Faculty by the curriculum committee at the beginning of each semester and after the decision of the Board of Faculty Directors announced to the students. Student who has grade on laboratory in the midterm activities and application grade of 50 and over can enter to the final exams, a student has a grade less than 50 can not enter to the final or make up exams of the vocational courses in nursing and it is considered as failed from the course directly. |
Profile of the Programme |
Improve an individuals self care, strengthen individual/family/community and ensure that adequate, use the process of critical thinking in professional practice, to synthesize theory and practice, show the individual development, contribute to nursing knowledge, behaviour, attitudes and values, constitute the profile of the institution. Problem-based learning model is applied at the Faculty. There is problem/situation as a learning tool at the Problem-based learning model. This problem is related to a situation where student began to work as a nurse. Works to understand and resolve this problem allows students to use inquiry skills. Student searches for the required information in the process and finds to solve the problem. Courses using problem-based learning model is acquired self learning, inquiry, self-assessment, communication, self-evaluation, synthesis of information. Students takes an active part in learning, assessment, organizing and sharing of information processes. Problem based learning sessions router (trainer) is a member of the group and helps to the development of the students cognitive skills and the participation in the evaluation process. Trainer does not provide information as in the classical education, supports the learning of the student. There are small group sessions in the problem based learning model approach. Each problem based model learning group consists of 10-13 students and a trainer. Three problem based learning model four-hour sessions is made on each module. Scenarios that are designed for each module are given to the students. This is the students responsibility to conduct sessions. Responsibility of the trainer is to support student for learning and mentoring. Student learn group dynamics, provide constructive criticism in the process of problem based learning model. The trainer supports the student in this dynamic process. |

Graduation Requirements |
In order to graduate in this 4 year program the student must successfully complete all of the courses. To be successfull for a lecture, at least 50 out of 100 in the final or make-up exam and at least 70 for nursing vocational courses on the problem-based learning curriculum must be graded. This degree given to the students that successes all of the courses on this program, provides minimum 240 ESTC credit. |
